This is the follow up book to Yvonne, Lady of Cassio and can be read as a stand alone novel. Grace, Yvonne’s daughter, is a strong heroine who faces family secrets, murder, and the death of loved ones. Her second sight places her in danger of being accused of witchcraft and, on the advice of her mother, she hides that secret to protect herself. Grace accepts her marriage to Jocelyn, a man she doesn’t know as she understands it’s a political union – the best she can hope for is that one day she and her husband will grow to love each other. To complicate matters, Grace must contend with Avice, her vindictive sister in law who resents that Grace took her place as lady of the manor.
This is a superb depiction of the life of a noblewoman in 14th century England. I loved the historical accuracy and the hints of suspense and brisk pacing kept me turning the pages. Fans of medieval romantic fiction will enjoy Grace and Jocelyn’s story.
