This book is the ninth book in the Canadian Historical Brides Collection, published by BWL Publishing in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday.
After the death of her mother, spirited Englishwoman Amelia Latimer sails to the colony of New Brunswick to join her soldier father. She meets Gilbert Arsenault, a handsome Acadian trader who is in a battle to save both his trading post and his mother’s land. Despite her father’s disapproval, Amelia falls in love with Gilbert, a man considered far beneath her in station.
The story is well written and the prose is lovely. Ie “She jerked a rack of wicks to her chest. They dangled a dance around her.” The book is full of historical detail and is sure to please any historical fiction/romance fan.
